Health Tips from a Mother of Three

How To Motivate Yourself To Go To The Gym

Going to the gym on a regular basis can help you maintain a healthy weight, boost your mood, and improve your strength. However, some days, you may not feel like going. You would rather relax on the couch and watch television or go to brunch with your friends. Fortunately, you can take steps to motivate yourself to go to the gym.

Here are a few tips to consider.

Go in the Morning

If you are not a morning person, going the gym after you first wake up may sound dreadful. However, if you go in the morning, you will get your workout over with early and will not have a chance to talk yourself out of going. Once you go to the gym a few times in the morning, it will become a habit.

Purchase a Cute Workout Outfit

Instead of throwing on a baggy pair of sweatpants and T-shirt, invest in a cute workout outfit. Believe it or not, but if you feel confident in what you are wearing, you may be more likely to go to the gym and give it your all.

Set Realistic Goals

Many people have goals when they go to the gym, but not all of them are realistic. For example, it probably is not realistic to lose 10 pounds after one week of working out. If you set more realistic goals, such as wanting to run two miles on the treadmill, you are more likely to go the gym.

Vary Your Workout Routine

Performing the same workout routine day after day can get boring eventually. To stay motivated, change your routine every week or so. For example, if you usually use the treadmill or elliptical, try training with weights this week. The following week, you could consider attending a group fitness class.

Take a Friend

Another way to motivate yourself to go to the gym is to invite a friend. You will be less likely to skip a workout session if you know your friend is counting on you to be there. Also, if you witness your friend lifting heavy weights or logging a lot of miles on the treadmill, it could inspire you to work harder at the gym.

If you follow these helpful tips, you may be more motivated to go to the gym. If you have additional questions exercising, do not hesitate to ask a personal trainer at your gym for advice.
